My business coaching manifesto
My way to professional coaching passed though art and photography in particular. In addition to being a certified professional coach, I am also a maker and reader of pictures.
I witnessed the transformational power of images for the first time when a participant of my photography master class was so impacted by the insight created during our private conversation over the pictures he brought for me to see, that he decided to change his life. He said he realized what his pictures were really about. This and other experiences prompted me to develop my own technique of coaching using images, creativity and imagination. In my work with organizational leaders and teams I use this innovative methodology to deliver results.
For me, creativity is the most important indicator of high-performance. A free flow of creative energy exhibited by a healthy team, generates a steady cash flow too. Ill-communicating, overworked and insecure teams caught in a never ending cycle of band-aid problem solving and short-term vision are incapable of creative decision-making. On a leadership level a failure to imagine may cost an organization its future. Leaders are now expected to be able to imagine the unimaginable.
The irony is that creativity, imagination and play are the innate characteristics of a human psyche. That means we are all creative, imaginative and playful by design. It’s just somehow these vital characteristics have been banished from offices. I firmly believe, bringing them back makes a strong business sense.
How can an organization do that? By coaching and empowering their leaders and small teams and by training and developing their essential skills through creative methods. The goal is not to turn executives and managers into artists. The goal is to borrow the tools artists have been using to thrive while facing the uncertainty, limitations and chaos, to look at business processes and challenges through an artistic prism of opportunities.
In 1990 when The Hubble Space Telescope was launched, the world gasped when it saw for the first time those mesmerizing images of deep space. When in 2022 Hubble’s successor The James Webb Space Telescope transmitted its first image from the orbit, we realized the same sky got a much more detailed picture featuring elements we didn’t know existed. Amazing science! That’s what art does too. It provides a new instrument to look at familiar things and reveal them in a completely new light.
This is what I bring to the table, a unique set of skills and the experience that allow to set up a bridge between the worlds of management and creative expression to unlock unrealized potential for growth and learning for leaders and teams. Engaged in a deep reflection on image and imagination, I operate on a cusp of Systemic Coaching, Analytical Psychology and applied arts.
My methodology is not for every organization. Courage, forward-thinking and an openness to experiment are required to try this way of cultivating your Talent. If your organization operates with such mindset and is looking for holistic ways to empower its leaders and teams, then we need to have a conversation.
Building productive teams, leadership development, EI.
